Welcoming Rest

What does rest look like for you?

When you need a break, what signals do you notice (e.g., tired eyes, foggy thoughts, tight jaw)? How do you respond when you notice those signals? Perhaps resting the eyes for a few moments. Taking a few deep breaths. Walking outside. Or lying down.

Or perhaps it's difficult to take a break - whether due to deadlines, anxiety, or guilt about not doing enough. If so, you might get curious, inviting a kind attention to your experience. When we acknowledge, for example, that it's a busy time and we're struggling to rest, that may open a space for compassion. "Rest" might look like being gentler with ourselves. It might look like adjusting our ideas, allowing rest to be something short and simple for now. If we don't have an hour to rest, that's okay. Instead, we might give ourselves permission to rest for two mindful breaths.

In our next Mindfulness & Creativity session, we'll explore rest in our mindfulness practices. We'll notice where we might be working harder than needed, and invite a sense of ease into our practice. We'll consider our relationship to rest, and what kinds of rest are supportive and available to us, right now.

I look forward to seeing you on Sunday!

Hannah
